JUBILANT AFC Bournemouth supporters will get the chance to congratulate their heroes on Sunday when Cherries embark on an open-top bus parade.
Fans can show their appreciation for the campaign enjoyed by Eddie Howe’s team by turning out to cheer them on their trip around the town.
The proposed route – to be confirmed later this week – will see them leave from Bournemouth Pier at 2pm, along Undercliff Road to Boscombe Pier, before finishing in the Square, where players will meet supporters.
It will conclude a remarkable season, in which the club has surpassed all expectations to achieve promotion from English football’s basement division.
Dogged by off-field problems including winding-up petitions and a long-running, strict transfer embargo, Cherries defied all the odds to emerge victorious in their pursuit of elevation to the third tier.
Despite being unable to make any permanent signings and being restricted to emergency loanees, young manager Howe made the best of the limited resources at his disposal to keep Cherries in the automatic promotion places for virtually the entire season.
The Dean Court faithful turned out in numbers to mark the club’s final home game of the campaign on Saturday, with 9,055 spectators making for a party atmosphere.
Travelling fans did likewise at Burton Albion a week earlier, when around 1,700 travelled to watch the team secure a top-three finish. See our picture gallery below.
Sunday’s parade follows the final game of the season – with Cherries visiting Chesterfield 24 hours prior for the last match at the Spireites’ Saltergate ground.
