BUCCANEERS reject Kyle Newman insists he doesn’t have anything to prove ahead of his Wimborne Road return with Newport tonight (7.30pm).

The dynamic teenager was axed from Bournemouth Castle Cover’s 2010 team plans shortly after he’d left Britain to spend the winter in Australia recovering from a broken thigh injury.

But the youngster, who helped the Dorset team to National League and cup glory last season, said he harboured no ill feeling towards Buccaneers bosses Garry May and Neil Vatcher.

Corfe Mullen-based Newman added: “It’s always nice to go back to your old track and I’m just going back to try and have a strong meeting.

“There is nothing to prove. I’ve had people saying ‘go out and get a maximum to show them what they’re missing’, but I just need to get some solid points on the board to help Newport have a good meeting.

“This is 2010. It’s not 2009 any more. I have to move on with Newport.

“We’re in with a shout of the title, just like Bournemouth, so this is a good test for both sides.”

Newman is aiming to lift the third-tier crown for a third time in a row with three different teams after helping Weymouth become champions in 2008.

He said: “It’ll probably seem a bit strange riding against Buccs after I had such a great time with them last year, but I’m enjoying life with Hornets.

“We have a great team atmosphere and I feel really at home there.

“I see tonight’s meeting as a normal away meeting even though it’s only five minutes drive down the road from my home.

“I haven’t been able to watch Buccs this year, but I’ve been to all Pirates’ meetings and they’ve been awesome.

“I had a look at some of the lines they’ve taken and hope that’ll be a little bit of knowledge that can help me.

“I’ve had five or six meetings so far this year and my thigh feels fine. In one, I was taken out badly on the inside but didn’t even think about my leg after I crashed. I was more concerned about my ribs.

“It wasn’t until someone asked if my leg was okay that I thought about it and then said ‘yes’.

“It shows the strength I have built up in it.”

May, in a Buccs’ press release, said: “It’s great to see Kyle fit again and I’d have loved to have had him in our side if the (team-building) figures allowed it.

“I know he’ll be keen to do well and wouldn’t be surprised if he puts in a good score.”

Buccs captain Mark Baseby will double-up with Premier League Somerset, but failed to score on his Rebels debut in a 56-40 defeat at Scunthorpe on Monday.
