SHADOW schools secretary Nick Gibb has met anxious parents to discuss the future of Purbeck schooling.

Teachers, parents and students are angry about the controversial Purbeck Review, which will change the district’s education system from three to two tiers.

Mr Gibb, who joined South Dorset Conservative parliamentary candidate Richard Drax on the campaign trial, met parents in Swanage.

Members of campaign group Education Swanage are still smarting from the Tory-controlled county council decision not to build a secondary school site within the town.

Mr Gibb outlined the Conservative policy of new, independent, state schools, together with party proposals to “restore discipline and order to the classroom and give heads more power”.

Mr Drax said: “I am delighted that Nick came to address parents’ and governors’ genuine concerns about the move from the three to two-tier systems and the consequences those would have on schools in Purbeck.”
