THIRTY Seconds To Mars frontman Jared Leto is also known for his roles on the silver screen and last night the movie actor and his band put on a theatrical thriller of a show.

As a huge curtain falls at the end of Escape, the intro track from the band’s latest album This is War, the California rock trio are met with delighted sequels and launch into the dark 80s electro-pop of Night of the Hunter, followed by the anthemic Attack.

Stellar renditions of singles A Beautiful Lie and From Yesterday are complemented by their elaborate promotional videos, shown on two large screens at the back of the stage, part of an impressive set-up and light show.

However, it’s when the BIC crowd is plunged into almost pitch-black darkness that one of the evening’s standout moments occurs.

Drummer Shannon Leto climbs down from his drum riser to play guitar during atmospheric instrumental L490 as his singer sibling exits the stage, before a chorus of screams emanates from the left-side balcony.

A single spotlight locates Jared, stood amongst those in the seating area.

After amusingly, if very briefly, obliging to a flippant request for The Police’s Message In A Bottle, the frontman plays a captivating, acoustic version of A Modern Myth, as those on the floor gaze up at the simple spectacle.

Picking out audience members to join them on stage for the euphoric call to arms closer, Kings And Queens, the band seem as happy to have added this Bournemouth date to their UK arena tour as the thousands in attendance.

See the picture Jared tweeted from the show here- he's captioned it "best show ever!"
