A PORTSMOUTH footballer who lives in Poole faces a trial for allegedly speeding at 109mph.
Herman Hreidarsson, a defender for the financially troubled team, had a court date at Bournemouth Magistrates yesterday morning.
The 35-year-old is accused of hitting the speed on the 70mph dual carriageway A35 Puddletown bypass.
He did not attend court but was represented by a solicitor and a not guilty plea was entered.
The alleged offence took place on October 3 last year. Portsmouth had a 0-1 away victory over Wolves the same day.
Hreidarsson, of Western Avenue in Branksome Park, was allegedly caught by manned equipment and now faces a possible penalty of 3-6 points and a potential ban.
He has played for Portsmouth at left back and in central defence since being signed from Charlton by fellow Poole resident Harry Redknapp in 2007, and his previous clubs include Crystal Palace, Brentford, Wimbledon, and Ipswich.
Hreidarsson is an international player for his native Iceland and is the most experienced serving player with 85 caps and five goals. His trial date has been set for July 2.
