DETECTIVES have had a number of calls and a potential new lead in the case of a violent robbery, after airing an appeal on BBC’s Crimewatch.

The show on Monday (Dec 21) highlighted Graham and Lesley Eaton of Lake Farm, Ashington.

A trio of armed and masked men forced their way into the couple’s home near Wimborne on December 19 last year.

The couple, now 55, were threatened with being killed and then beaten up, and held in separate rooms at knifepoint, by men carrying a gun, a baseball bat and a large knife.

The robbers made off with £5,000 including cheques – a fraction of what they were hoping was in the house.

Graham and Lesley talk about their ordeal

TV viewers were asked for information about the three men, and information on the two watches that were stolen and four vehicles that may have been involved. An e-fit of one of the men was also broadcast.

Detective Inspector Michael Mullen said: “We have received a number of calls from members of the public in response to last night's Crimewatch appeal.

“One call was of particular significance, as the informant put forward a name for the man sat in the Ford Focus.

“Detectives are following this up and enquiries are ongoing.

“I am appealing for any witnesses and anyone with information about this incident to contact us urgently.

“I am also keen to hear from anyone who has been offered a distinctive Oris watch - with a large wrist strap - in the last twelve months and anyone who knows of someone who has come into possession of such an item.”
