A LONG-standing Poole pub has become the latest victim of the ailing licensing industry.

Time has been called on the Tatnam Hotel on the corner of Wimborne Road and Tatnam Road, close to Poole Stadium.

The freehold of the grand two-storey building, now a shadow of its former glory, was sold by brewery Enterprise Inns last month.

Though the brewery would not reveal who the new owners of the site were, it is rumoured a budget hotel chain may be the new owners of the plot.

Neighbours have also speculated that it will become a supermarket, with flats above.

A spokeswoman for Enterprise Inns said: “Our policy is to dispose of sites on an individual basis, reflecting in each case the opportunities available for maximising value for our shareholders.”

The Tatnam, once one of Poole’s most striking landmarks, was given a refurbishment in 1983, when it was owned by Whitbread.

But its popularity has waned in the subsequent years and by the time of its closure the pub had become rundown and not as well frequented.

The bottom floor windows of the two-storey hotel have now all been boarded up.

Two skips sit outside in the pub car park and are full of old furniture and mattresses.
