THE Wimborne Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal launches on Saturday October 24 with a variety of events, coinciding with Wimborne Food Festival.

A column of historic military vehicles will drive from Allenbourn Middle School in East Borough, around the town, then park in the Square just before 11am.

The Dorset Youth Marching Band will march from the British Legion to the Square, give a rousing musical accompaniment for town mayor John Burden as he buys the first poppy.

The band will then march down the High Street to perform by the Minster as an additional attraction for the food fare event on the Minster Green.

The day will also see a Garden of Remembrance set up for people to place personal poppy crosses. The crosses will be left in place until the Friday after Armistice Day.
