A MAN who was locked up at the notorious Guantanamo Bay camp before being released without charge is coming to West Dorset to give a talk.
Moazzam Begg has been invited to Bridport to give a presentation by the town’s Peace and Justice Group.
Mr Begg is a British Muslim who went to Afghanistan with his family to start a school but was arrested there after the invasion in 2002 for alleged terrorism offences.
He was held by security forces in Afghanistan and later at Camp X-Ray in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba before being released in 2005. He has yet to receive an apology or compensation.
Mr Begg, 40, who lives in Birmingham, has become a spokesman for the prisoner human rights organisation Cageprisoners since his release and travels around the country giving talks. He has also written a book about his experiences, Enemy Combatant.
Mr Begg will give his talk at St Mary’s Church in South Street, Bridport on Saturday October 17 at 7.30pm. Everyone is welcome and there is a suggested £5 donation.
