A woman had her handbag snatched shortly after withdrawing £200 from a cash machine.

The 69-year-old lost £200 and two items of jewellery in the daylight attack, which happened in West Moors at about 1.40pm on Monday.

The victim, who had visited a cash machine shortly before the robbery on Glenwood Road, may have been followed by the thief.

“Aside from the money, the handbag contained two items of jewellery that have sentimental value to the victim,” said PC Nigel Richards.

Pictures of the jewellery – a gold bracelet and a gold chain – have been released in a bid to warn traders who may be offered the stolen goods.

“I am appealing for anyone who witnessed this incident, and anyone who recalls any suspicious person around the Station Road branch of Tesco on Monday afternoon to contact me urgently.

“I would also like to hear from anyone, perhaps a pawnbroker or jeweller, who has been offered jewellery since Monday afternoon matching the items pictured.

“All calls will of course be treated in the strictest of confidence,” said PC Richards.

The attacker is described as wearing blue trousers, possibly jeans, and a dark-coloured parker-style jacket.
