THE Alexander Technique has been taught and practised for more than 100 years and offers a practical self-help approach to improving mental and physical well-being.

It has also been found to have long-term benefits for back pain and following a highly acclaimed report in the British Medical Journal is now recommended by doctors.

Lessons are one-to-one and teachers use instruction and hands-on guidance to help people change poor postural habits and develop natural co-ordination and flexibility.

As well as back pain and other musculoskeletal difficulties, the technique can help to reduce stress and anxiety, improve posture and enhance presentation and vocal skills.

To celebrate Alexander Technique International Awareness, which starts on Saturday, a number of workshops, talks and demonstrations will be held throughout the UK.
