The Dorset Bat Group is holding a Halloween event at Upton Country Park to help people learn more about these elusive night-time creatures.

The session, on October 31, starts with a bat hat-making workshop for children at 3pm followed by a walk through Upton Wood at 4.30pm to look and listen for bats using bat detectors.

Rachael Shefford, heritage assistant at Purbeck District Council, said: “We often misunderstand these interesting creatures. This is a great way to learn more about them.”

There will be prizes for the best bat hat and fancy dress costume – all ages are welcome, but children must be accompanied by an adult.

Walkers without children can meet by the bus shelter in the Upton Country Park car park to join the bat walk, but must bring a torch. For details call Rachael at Purbeck council on 01929 557237.
