PLAY rangers in Christchurch have proved to be popular additions to the town’s packed programme of events with more than 10,000 participants taking part since they started over a year ago.
The play programme was launched in earnest in August 2008 after Christchurch Borough Council received £200,000 from the Big Lottery to fund a portfolio of two projects including new facilities at Waterman’s Park and two new play rangers to run sessions for youngsters.
The six-week summer sessions alone have attracted nearly 2,000 youngsters, with the scheme being praised by the Big Lottery for the “excellent work” undertaken.
Senior play ranger Jonathon Hibbert said: “The success of these sessions shows what appetite Christchurch children have for getting outside and doing something which is fun but which also keeps them fit.”
