A BOURNEMOUTH granddad, who died in last week’s crash on the A31, has been remembered as a “fun-loving and generous” man by his family.

Don Williams, a former farm manager and driver, was described as young at heart and a dedicated family man.

The 72-year-old died when his Ford Mondeo was involved in a head-on collision with a Toyota near Almer last Tuesday.

Don’s sister Audrey Lury, who is partially disabled, said Don had been her rock for many years.

She said: “Don would do anything for anyone – not just me and his family.

“Everyone that knew Don respected him for the kind and generous man that he was.

“His wife Janet (who was badly injured in the crash) has lost someone who no-one can replace.

“Don’s death has touched the lives of many people.”

Born and bred in Cardiff, Don completed national service in the Australian army when 19 and managed a huge cattle farm down under before moving to Furzehill on his 22nd birthday.

He lived with his parents – father Joe Williams was an ex-East Dorset councillor – and went on to drive milk lorries and taxis, as well as run a coach hire company.

Don, also a well-known figure at horse shows, stewarding with his son, married Janet after meeting her through the local Young Farmers group.

They had a son and a daughter, who are both said to be “devastated” by their father’s death.

His daughter said: “I have a four-year-old son, who lost his father when he was 21 months old.

“He is completely besotted with his grandfather and for the last two years we have been together so much.

“This is such a waste of life. This is not a man whose life was over – far from it.”
