A PEDESTRIAN is lucky to be alive after jumping out of the path of a speeding stolen car during a police pursuit through the streets of Bournemouth.

Motorists were forced to swerve out of the way of the blue Nissan Micra, which struck an oncoming police car during the 20-minute pursuit between Winton and Bournemouth.

The high-speed chase began in Vicarage Road about 8pm on Friday, May 1.

Details have just been released by Dorset Police, who are appealing for witnesses.

DC Mark White of Bournemouth and Poole police told the Daily Echo: “There’s no doubt that witnesses will have noticed this incident because of the manner of driving of the blue car.

“I’ve been told that in Withemoor Road it narrowly missed colliding with a truck at the junction with Wimborne Road.

“Then in Bennett Road, at the junction with Richmond Park Road, I believe the vehicle overtook five or six cars at traffic lights and collided with an oncoming police car before driving off.

“At the junction of Holdenhurst Road and Washington Avenue I’ve been told a pedestrian had to jump out of the way.

“As the car drove from Spring Road into Cleveland Road, I believe another car was forced to take avoiding action to prevent a head-on collision.”
