A BOURNEMOUTH MP has joined celebrities to throw his weight behind a brain tumour campaign.
Bournemouth West MP Sir John Butterfill is supporting the national brain tumour campaign ‘Brain Tumour Research’ launched at the House of Commons.
The campaign was launched by a group of 14 brain tumour charities campaigning to raise awareness and increase funding for vital research.
It is supported by celebrities including Martin Kemp and Russell Watson who have both had brain tumours and Sheila Hancock whose grandson Jack survived a brain tumour.
Sir John said: “I fully support the group of brain tumour charities working together to form ‘Brain Tumour Research’ to raise awareness and increase funds dedicated to understanding the disease and providing better treatment for patients.
“Research into brain tumours is seriously under-funded and has not received the same attention as other cancers. Brain tumour research receives less than one per cent of the national spend on cancer research in the UK and higher profile cancers generate more than 20 times the funding of brain cancer.”
