SISTERS Mia and Megan McClure will be donning their fairy outfits on Sunday as they take part in the Race for Life in Poole Park.

The duo, aged five and two, from Francis Avenue in Wallisdown, will be running the 5km route in support of their six-year-old cousin Louis, who is bravely battling leukaemia.

Mia got the Race for Life bug last year when she took part with her mum Nicola and raised a fantastic £545 for Cancer Research UK.

Now she is raring to go for another year, this time with her little sister Megan in tow.

Nicola said: “Mia really wanted to do it last year and had such a great time she hasn’t stopped talking about it and as we have got a very independent two-year-old, Megan has decided she wants to join us!

“I am incredibly proud of them for wanting to do this – 5k is a long way for little legs.”

Race for Life is a women-only event and this year there are over 230 races taking place all over the country.

The race in Poole Park will see 1,750 women and girls take part and organisers hope they will help reach the fundraising target of £116,000.

Cancer Research UK is funding over 100 clinical trials.

In Poole, patients with follicular lymphoma are being recruited for a trial.

Cancer Research UK-funded scientists are investigating whether giving lower doses of radiotherapy may be as effective as higher doses in controlling the cancer of the immune system.

In Bournemouth, the charity is funding a major clinical trial called Coin, comparing two new treatment options for people with advanced bowel cancer.
