WIMBORNE’S Leon Camier warned his rivals he is just getting started after winning both races at Oulton Park to take the lead in the British Superbike Championship standings.

The Airwaves Yamaha rider showed experience beyond his years as he twice overtook veteran Karl Harris to top the podium take him to 88 points – 11 ahead of rival Sylvain Guintoli.

But Camier’s team have already promised a new, improved engine for the next round at Donington Park and the 22-year-old admits everything he touched turned to gold in Cheshire.

He said: “It couldn’t have gone much better for me really – pole position, fastest laps in both races and two wins. It is pretty much perfect really.

“We did not expect to do this at all. We thought we would struggle with the speed by Yamaha really pulled it out of the bag.

“Hopefully we should have an engine that will have extra horsepower for Donington Park. That will definitely help and should see us go even faster.

“It easy to get carried away but I’ve just got to keep my head down. The championship standings are looking good but there is a long way to go yet.”

Fellow Dorset rider Josh Brookes finally made his Superbikes debut, having sorted out his visa problems but the Australian suffered mixed fortunes at Oulton Park.

After a cautious first race in which he finished tenth, Brookes showed his natural aggression in race two but mechanical problems struck just as he was manoeuvring his way into a top-five finish.

But Aussie Brookes – who rides for HM Plant Honda –was just relieved to finally start racing in Britain.

He said: “I was really anxious to get here and I am glad that all the visa stuff is taken care of – I worked so hard to get it sorted before Brands Hatch but it just wasn’t possible.

“It felt like a load was lifted off my shoulders just after I finished race one.“I went out there with a new outlook after getting race one off my back and I was really able to attack – I made a few mistakes but I was still able to catch some of the guys.“I was knocking at the door of fifth place when the bike went and all in all it is not the best track to have a debut on because it is quite tough.”
