FIRE-FIGHTERS spent three hours battling a blaze which ripped through a barn in Wimborne on Saturday afternoon.
Fire broke out at the 20m by 40m barn at March Farm in Lodge Road at around 3.15pm.
Crews attended from Wimborne, Ferndown, Verwood, Redhill Park in Bournemouth and Poole and used three main jets to fight the fire.
Despite their efforts the roof collapsed and the barn was completed destroyed.
Fire-fighters said the fire was believed to have been started by a spark off an anglegrinder.
The barn contained 40 tonnes of hay and straw – some of which was rescued from the flames using a tractor.
Fire-fighters managed to prevent the fire from spreading to a diesel storage unit.
The fire was extinguished by 5.50pm.
Crews returned to the scene several times on Sunday to check the scene.
