A 20-YEAR-old from the Lymington area is in hospital with serious head injuries after an alleged assault in the town in the early hours of Thursday, March 5.

Police want to hear from witnesses to an altercation between a small group of men that began in Milford Road and continued in Elm Avenue, Pennington at about 12.45am.

The 20-year-old was taken to Southampton General Hospital. His injuries are not life-threatening.

DS Andy Lupton from Lyndhurst CID said: “Incidents of this nature are rare in the New Forest and we are treating this as an isolated assault.

“”I would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed what happened or heard the assault take place to contact us giving as much detail as possible.”

Two 18-year-olds from the Lymington area have been arrested in connection with the incident. Both were in custody at Lyndhurst.
