THE number of recycling centres across Bournemouth should be slashed from 18 to just ten councillors agreed.

Members of the Environment and Economy Scrutiny Panel made the recommendation after hearing that Bournemouth Borough Council provides residents with a comprehensive kerbside recycling collection for co-mingled paper, cardboard, glass, cans and plastic bottles.

Sites to be removed include B&Q in Holdenhurst Road, Waitrose at Winton, Solent Mead, Southbourne, Castlepoint in Castle Lane West and Tesco in Castle Lane East. Those set to stay include Littledown in Castle Lane East, Cranmer Road in Winton and Hawkwood Road in Boscombe.

Councillors also said that the shortage of community recycling facilities in the north of the borough should be looked at with a view to opening up more of them to the charity sector.

Cllr Phil Stanley-Watts said: “I am just concerned about any fly-tipping .That has happened at some removed sites.”
