A CORFE Mullen councillor is celebrating the success of a countywide project to give unwanted books to people in a war-ravaged African country.

Cllr Susan Jefferies began a local campaign to send books to Sierra Leone last November, and her efforts in Corfe Mullen have been taken up by the Dorset Library Service.

Dorset’s participation in The Big Read for Sierra Leone project has now seen about 10,000 books brought to libraries by school children from across the county.

Representatives from the project are due to collect the books this month. To find out more, visit www.codep.co.uk.
