I thought my days of enjoying pantomimes were behind me.

Well oh no they’re not.

This year’s thigh-slappingly good panto at the Tivoli is a rollercoaster of fun.

Pendle Productions have delivered a classic Aladdin, played with charm and gusto by Amy O’Neill.

She can sing too and that is one of the great strengths of the show.

Loads of modern pop songs (Ting Tings, Take That) combine with a catalogue of Elvis hits.

Abanazar, played by Kivan Dene (more Elvis than Evil) is the perfect target for the audience’s boos. He ain’t nothing but a hound dog, and more suspicious minds than the beautiful Princess Jasmine (Karen Cunningham) would have seen through his wooden heart.

The whole cast gives 110 per cent and special mention must go to Wishee Washee (Callum Arnott) – great comic timing, which could have been used even more.

The sets are bright and the flying carpet a brave attempt at illusion. I was clapping along and waving my hands like a mad thing by the end – I loved the skeletons and Elvis singing American Trilogy.

Lovely work too from young dancers from Footlights Dance Academy – they added some magic to a great family show.
