Search the Public Notice PortalLidl has started work on a new supermarket in Poole after receiving the go ahead from BCP Council.
The application, submitted by Lidl Great Britain Ltd, was seeking permission to demolish the remaining industrial buildings at 570–580 Ringwood Road and replace them with a modern class E retail food store.
Planning documents say that the development would include 114 parking spaces, along with cycle storage and new landscaping across the site.
Earlier proposals for the same site included a drive‑through coffee shop alongside a supermarket. The new application indicates there will be no drive‑thru coffee shop.
Planning officers approved the planning permission for the new Lidl in April 2026.
Lidl has confirmed that construction is now under way at the site in Ringwood Road, to construct a new store.
Lidl GB has more than 35,000 employees, more than 1,000 stores and 13 distribution centres in England. The new store represents a multi-million-pound investment as part of Lidl’s wider £600 million expansion plan across the UK.
Oliver Loach, regional head of property at Lidl GB, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to break ground on Ringwood Road.
“We know the community has been following this project closely, and we are excited to finally transform this site into a vibrant new space.
“This state-of-the-art store will create jobs, breathe life into an underutilised piece of land, and enhance local access to our quality, affordable offering.”
Once complete, the store will create up to 40 new jobs, with Lidl colleagues earning entry-level hourly pay of £13.45 nationally.
The new Lidl store will include customer toilets with baby changing facilities, an in-store bakery, and the popular Middle of Lidl aisle.
Additional amenities include rapid EV charging points, covered bicycle parking, and dedicated accessible and parent-and-child parking bays.
The building will also feature roof-mounted solar panels to help power the store.
As construction gets under way, Lidl is inviting nearby schools to take part in the Lidl Foodies programme.
The programme is a free initiative which aims to help children develop a love for healthy eating, focusing on fresh fruit and vegetables.
