Plans for a family home to become a care home for children have been submitted.

The proposal will see Chewton Edge, 127 Ringwood Road in Christchurch, converted from a residential dwelling into a children’s care home.

Under the plans, the care home would accommodate up to three children in a family-style environment, supported by adult carers who would provide day-to-day care and supervision.

A statement in the application said that the proposed use would accommodate up to three children within a domestic household environment.

The children would live together within the property and share normal domestic facilities, including living, dining, kitchen, bathroom and circulation spaces.

Care would be provided by adult carers/staff to support the day-to-day needs of the children structured around normal household routines, including shared meals, school attendance, domestic routines and ordinary household interaction.

There would be no external staff base, no public-facing operation, no signage, no branding, and no external features indicating a non-residential use.

The proposed use is a small residential care home operating within an existing domestic dwelling, rather than an institutional facility.

Staff would work on a rota basis, with overnight “sleep-in” arrangements as required.

Public consultation on the application is open until July 9 under planning application number P/26/02324/FUL.
