A charity supporting young widowed people has received a funding boost to help continue its vital work.

WAY Widowed and Young, the only UK charity supporting people under 50 who have lost a partner, received a £1,500 donation from housebuilder David Wilson Redrow South West to support its work in Dorset.

Stephanie Patrick, chief executive of WAY Widowed and Young, said: "WAY relies upon donations from our members and the generosity of supporters to help us provide a lifeline to 4,500 young widowed people up and down the country, including in Dorset."

The charity offers peer-to-peer support and access to a secure members-only website and confidential telephone support line.

The donation was made following a nomination from a David Wilson Redrow employee who had benefited from the charity’s support.

Louise Ware, sales director for David Wilson Redrow South West, said: "We’re proud to support the important work carried out by WAY Widowed and Young.

"Losing a partner at any age is incredibly difficult, and the charity provides a vital source of comfort, understanding and practical support for people navigating bereavement."

WAY also carries out outreach through GP surgeries, hospitals, and funeral directors to connect with newly bereaved individuals.
