ESSENTIAL work to upgrade the gas supply network on the A35 Poole Road is set to begin shortly, with SGN saying they will do “everything we can to limit disruption” during the project.

It comes after Kaos Beds, on Poole Road, told the Echo it is “extremely unhappy and deeply frustrated” over the planned nine-week works.

SGN has announced it will begin major work to replace ageing metal gas mains and services with modern plastic pipe as part of an ongoing programme to improve the safety and reliability of the local gas network.

The work, which has been planned in partnership with BCP Council and developed alongside the Health and Safety Executive, is due to begin on Monday, May 25, and is expected to last around nine weeks.

To allow the project to be carried out safely, a temporary eastbound closure will be introduced on the A35 Poole Road between Pottery Junction roundabout and Cromer Road.

The closure will be installed overnight on Monday, May 25, with work starting the following day.

SGN regional manager Wayne Edwards Holford said: “We’ve worked closely with the local authorities in planning this work and we will be doing everything we can to limit disruption during our essential project.

“We appreciate that roadworks can be frustrating, however, the new plastic pipe has a minimum lifespan of 80 years.

“This means once the work has been completed, homes and businesses will enjoy the benefits of a continued safe and reliable gas supply for many years to come.”

During the works, vehicles will not be able to travel eastbound from Pottery Junction roundabout past Cromer Road, although westbound traffic will remain unaffected.

Pedestrian and cycle access will continue to be maintained throughout the project.

There will also be no vehicle access between Cromer Road and Poole Road, with Cromer Road closed at its junction with Poole Road.

Residents with off-road parking inside the closure area will still be able to access their properties, but only via the westbound carriageway.

Temporary parking restrictions will also be in place for the duration of the work.

Bin collections are expected to continue as normal unless residents are informed otherwise by the local authority.

Eastbound bus services will be affected, and passengers are being advised to contact their bus operator for the latest updates and revised routes.
