A new community hub is taking shape thanks to public support.
Hengistbury Head Outdoors is transforming the former Marine Training Centre into a space for water sports, outdoor learning, and wellbeing activities.
The project welcomed a visit from Tom Hayes MP, ahead of its Spring opening.

Mr Hayes said: "From water sports and outdoor learning to movement, well-being and community gatherings, the Centre is designed to help people move more, feel better and belong.
"I’m delighted by the progress to date and can’t wait to see Hengistbury Head Outdoors formally open!"
The site is being developed as a not-for-profit venture, owned and operated for community benefit.
Mark Merritt, chairman of the board of directors, said: "Volunteers at Hengistbury Head Outdoors were delighted to welcome Tom Hayes MP to the Centre prior to the official opening in April 2026.
"HHO will offer affordable, accessible activities on land and water for children, families, and older people alike."
Mr Merritt said the centre’s 99-year lease, secured last year, was made possible through more than £600,000 from the Government’s Community Ownership Fund.
More than 1,000 supporters have contributed time, skills, and donations, and over 60 individuals have invested through community shares.
Hengistbury Head Outdoors will host two open days ahead of its April opening, on Saturday, 28 March, and Sunday, 29 March.
Visitors can tour the centre, meet the team, and find out how to get involved. Tickets and details on community shares and donations are available at www.hengistbury.org.
