A POPULAR running event in Dorset has added more loops to its trail.

The Lighthouse Loop, which will take place on August 14, offers a challenging route across Purbeck with 185 metres of elevation across five kilometres.

Starting at 7PM on the Wednesday, the one-of-a-kind event is the only event in a series of five races which is held midweek and in the evening.

The event organisers promise the winner will be rewarded with a special, locally themed trophy, plus a smaller award for every runner who competes in the race.

Competing in multiple races throughout the Purbeck trail series allows participants to earn more points and stand a better chance of winning the overall competition.

Event organiser Victoria Turner said: “When people go to one of the races, they want to go to more to maintain their streak.”

She added: “We get lots of people here, from running clubs to people travelling down the country to come to our unique location so they can enjoy the hills and what we have to offer.”

The Purbeck trail series begins on June 23 with the Coombe Keynes 10K run at Lulworth Estate, with further opportunities to compete on September 1 and September 22.

When the events are held, the leaders board will be posted on the Purbeck Trail series Facebook page, with certificates handed out at the Studland Stampede event that rounds off the series on October 6.
