A WOMAN was rescued by emergency services after she fell down a cliff and became stuck behind a beach hut.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service (DWFRS) was called to help Lymington and Poole Coastguard, South Western Ambulance Service, and Dorset Police at around 9.20pm on May 18.

It was reported a woman became stuck behind a beach hut after falling down a cliff near Boscombe promenade.

DWFRS said the woman was conscious and breathing, but her injuries were unknown.

A spokesperson for DWFRS said: "We assisted ambulance in releasing a female after she had fallen down a cliff and got stuck behind a beach hut.

"Springbourne Fire Station responded to the event and we got the call at 9.23pm and our stop time was 10.09pm.

"We assisted ambulance and coastguard with lifting an adult female on a stretcher who was conscious, breathing with unknown injuries."

A spokesperson for HM Coastguard said: "On May 18, Southbourne, Lymington and Poole Coastguard Rescue Teams, Southwest Ambulance, Dorset Fire and Dorset Police responded to a female who had fallen from the cliff in Boscombe.

"The alert was raised to HM Coastguard at about 9pm. The female was recovered and passed to the ambulance service."

Despite an immediate response, a resident in Boscombe reported that an ambulance had to be let through onto the promenade by the coastguard which created a delay of around ten minutes.

Unsure of how far along the emergency services went, she noted they turned left onto the promenade.

She said: "It was about 9.30pm and me and my husband were still up at this point and one ambulance came down with its blues going and just absolutely sped down the hill but it couldn't turn left at the pier approach so it just sat there.

"The coastguard came down to open the gate to let it through and then they turned down along the promenade.

"We don't know what it was, how far they went down, I stayed up to see if anything came back out and nothing did."

The Daily Echo has contacted Dorset Police for a comment, but had not received a response at the time of publication.
