HAVING just returned from a few days break in Bournemouth I am reading the article about the introduction by BCP of a "tourist tax" and have read about various cities around the world which have already introduced this.
How will hotels know when to add it on or not, for example, will business visitors still have to pay it even though they will not, technically, be tourists, or is it simply an "across the board" charge?
How does the money from the "tourist tax" get handed over to the relevant authorities - surely this is going to add another level of bureaucracy as towns and cities will need teams to deal with the collection and management of said tax?
What guarantees will there be that all of the money raised from already hard pressed tourists will go towards the maintenance and/or improvement of the amenities used by them?
