An AFC Bournemouth superfan has set up a charitable donation to help give children football kits who can't afford them.

James Rood, 37, has created a JustGiving page to help give AFC Bournemouth kits to children whose parents can't afford it.

Originally set up in 2023, James managed to raise enough to donate 25 kits to children and hopes to double his numbers to 50 kits in 2024.

He said: "It started by accident last summer just as the new kits were released. There was a lot of talk on Twitter about the cost of them and several families just said they couldn't justify a kit for their kids.

"I just randomly responded saying I would purchase one for one family and then that spiralled with plenty of other people saying it was a great idea and then all of a sudden I started having lots of people sending me money and lots of people asking for kits."

Since then, James has worked hard to be prepared for 2024, creating an application form to help organise those who would like kits and also contacting the team itself who have offered a 25% discount to James alongside 25 of the team's third kit.

A lifelong Bournemouth fan, James began his love for the team when given tickets and his first team kit by family and friends.

He said: "I come from a family that didn't have money at all. It was my friend's parents who gave me tickets and a kit that made me fall in love with the club.

"That got me into the club and then I ended up running the fans team back when I was younger and through that, I met someone that got me into the career I'm in now.

"The kids have gone through horrific times and we've had 58 applications already for this year. Some of the applications we've received have been heart-breaking."

James stated that on delivery, it can be posted directly to the kid or the parents so that they can say it's from them if they wish to avoid 'embarrassment'.
