TWO men have been taken to hospital with serious facial injuries after being attacked with a glass bottle in Bournemouth town centre.
A cordon is in place in Bournemouth Lower Gardens after the two men and a police officer were assaulted.
Police were called at 6.31pm on Monday, April 29, to reports of an assault in the gardens, along with an ambulance crew.
A 23-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and assault by beating.
During the incident a police officer sustained an injury to their hand and the man was also arrest on suspicion of assault by beating of an emergency worker.
A cordon remains in place along the River Bourne, next to Gervis Place, as officers carry out an investigation into the incident.
A spokesperson said: “Dorset Police received a report at 6.31pm on Monday 29 April 2024 of an assault in the Lower Gardens in Bournemouth. It is reported that two men were assaulted with a glass bottle causing serious facial injuries. They have been taken to hospital for treatment.
“Officers attended and a 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and assault by beating.
“During the incident, a police officer sustained an injury to their hand and the man was also arrested on suspicion of assault by beating of an emergency worker.
“A cordon has been put in place at the scene to allow a detailed investigation into the incident to be carried out. There will be an increased policing presence in the area and officers can be approached by anyone with information or concerns.”
