A SWAN that was shot in the head has made a full recovery after two weeks of rehabilitation.
The male swan was rushed to a wildlife centre after being found with an injury above its eye on April 11.
Upon further inspection, it was found the swan had been shot with an air rifle.
It had been receiving treatment at a Dorset veterinary service, the Wildlife Rescue Hospital Moyles Court. (WRHMC).
WRHMC is registered by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons as a wildlife veterinary premises which means vets can operate within the rescue centre.
Founder, Mike Meeks said: "Unless you're going to provide a professional service to these creatures, they won't survive. You have to get on it straight away, know what you're doing, and have vets at the end.
"If that swan hadn't come here, it would have died within 24 hours. To put it on an intravenous drip, that's what saved it."
At times, the swan's life was touch and go, Mike added: “When he was first brought in, I did not think it was going to be a happy ending.”
“Thankfully, it was.”
Now, after two weeks of rehabilitation, the swan has re-entered Poole Park to roam free.
