ARMED police were seen in Poole today after reports of a ‘woman in distress’ in the early hours of the morning.
Officers received the report at around 4am this morning, in the Newtown area of Poole.
Residents reported seeing armed officers in Croft Road, Sea View Road and near the Tesco in Ringwood Road.
One person was arrested in connection with the matter.
Officers are currently on the scene and carrying out enquiries, with Dorset Police saying there is nothing to indicate any wider risk to the public.
A spokesperson for the county force said: “At around 4am on Wednesday 24 April 2024, Dorset Police received a report of a woman in distress at an address in the Newtown area of Poole.
“Officers attended and one person has been arrested in connection with the matter.
“Officers are currently attending the incident and carrying out enquiries. There is nothing to indicate any wider risk to the public. There will be an increased police presence in the vicinity as enquiries are carried out.
“This remains an ongoing investigation and we are unable to give any further details at this time.”
