SWANAGE Railway is offering the chance of a lifetime for train fanatics.

Locomotive enthusiasts will have the opportunity to drive a BR Class 50026, dubbed Indomitable.

A spokesperson for Swanage Railway said: “We’ve got a fantastic opportunity to drive 50026 “Indomitable” on Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th of May.

“50026 have been undertaking test runs at the Swanage Railway following repairs over the winter at its depot in Eastleigh.

“As part of its visit, the locomotive owners have very kindly offered the chance to drive this fantastic machine along our railway."

The experience will involve driving a 50026 light engine (no coaches) between the Norden Road/Rail interchange and the Network Rail boundary at the River Frome.

The spokesperson added: “This experience is expected to be extremely popular, so we would recommend booking as soon as possible.

“Whether you are seeking the perfect present for a special someone who loves Class 50 as much as we do, or whether you’re looking for the chance of a lifetime, this experience is tailored to you.”

The ride will last half an hour and costs £250 per person.

The opportunity is available on May 4 and 5.
