BCP Council has appointed a new chief operations officer on around £150,000 per year.

Glynn Barton has taken on the role of chief operations officer at the authority after quitting the same role at the Transport for London (TfL).

He replaces Jess Gibbons who left BCP Council in favour of a new £200,000 chief executive role at Brighton and Hove Council.

At BCP Council, Mr Glynn is now responsible for all “place-making” decisions: commercial operations, arts and property, destination and planning, development and investment and environment infrastructure.

He has spent the past 22 years at TfL, with his roles including bringing more cycle lanes to the capital city.

He also played a “pivotal” role in the TfL's transport plan to support events to mark the Platinum Jubilee, the death of the Queen and subsequent coronation of Charles and Camilla.

On announcing leaving the TfL, he said: "Across 22 years at TfL I have always worked to put customers at the heart of what we do.

“It is difficult to leave a role which is as fulfilling as supporting and improving London, but it is the right time for a new challenge.

“And in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole I will be working to serve an area in which I grew up and for which I have a great affection.”

Mr Barton leaves his TfL role at the end of May.
