POLICE have cordoned off a sunbathing seal at a beach in Dorset.

Wareham Police blocked off a section of Durdle Door beach this afternoon to keep a safe distance between the public and the seal.

Officers joked on social media that they were putting a ‘seal on crime’.

They posted: “The sun finally shone this afternoon inviting a beautiful seal to Durdle Door beach for an afternoon of relaxation through the Easter holidays.

Bournemouth Echo: The cordon at Durdle Door beach

“Police were called to cordon a section of beach off to keep a safe distance between the public and the Seal.

“This also provided the seal with enough space to feel comfortable and avoid him getting stressed."
