A POOLE resident will appear on this weekend’s episode of the television show Antiques Roadshow.

The BBC series will be in Swanage on Sunday’s episode featuring Diana Barzilay alongside her sister Evie Hill.

Experts will unearth their family story of the tragic fate of the SS. St Louis – a ship of Jewish refugees, bound for the US, that was tragically forced to turn back to Europe, where many were murdered.

Diana is a member of The Association of Jewish Refugees.

Michael Newman, chief executive of The Association of Jewish Refugees, said: “We are so proud that AJR member Diana Barzilay will be on the Antiques Roadshow this Sunday, spotlighting the lesser-known story of the SS St Louis.

“In a remarkable story of survival, Diana’s parents escaped Nazi oppression twice when the cruise liner her parents boarded in desperate search for safe harbour in the US, was turned around and sent back to Europe.”

Like Diana, today, the children and grandchildren of those original refugees and survivors are joining AJR to celebrate and preserve their family’s culture and history. To sign up visit ajr.org.uk
