A DORSET charity raising awareness around domestic abuse has received a generous donation which will help it to "make a difference".

Safempowerment received a £695 donation from Hinton, and Poole and Wimborne Burial Grounds.

The grounds had raised the funds over the festive period with a number of wreath making workshops.

The money is set to benefit the charity’s SafeMentoring programme, which provides a support system for young people struggling with mental health, parental addiction, bullying in school, or abuse.

Elisa way, burial ground team manager, said: “We wanted to do something at Christmas to support a local charity and were keen to involve the community.

"With our burial ground consultant, Karen Hill, being a trained florist, it was great to be able to offer these workshops as a chance for people to learn a new a skill, come together to help an amazing cause and be able to make a natural Christmas wreath which could be taken home or left on a loved one's grave within our burial grounds.

"We chose Safempowerment as we as we wanted to be able to support the invaluable work they do, and we are very pleased with the amount which was raised for them.”

Safempowerment director, Sharon Ellis Gillard, said: “We are so pleased to have received this fantastic donation from Elisa and her team.

"We attended some of the workshops held and had a great time creating our own wreaths.

"This donation will help us continue making a difference in young people’s lives.”
