A SUSPECTED shoplifter has been banned from entering any town centre shop.

Bournemouth police arrested a man who they believed had stolen £600 worth of stock from shops in Bournemouth town centre on Saturday, March 2.

Officers from the neighbourhood policing team released him on police bail, with “strict” conditions prohibiting him from going into any town centre retail area.

A spokesman for Bournemouth police said: “Bournemouth neighbourhood policing team maintains a zero-tolerance stance on such behaviour, ensuring the safety of local businesses.”

The officers are part of the ‘town team’, aimed at tackling crime in Bournemouth town centre.

Made up off staff from Dorset Police, BCP Council, Bournemouth Town Centre BID, charity groups and the police and crime commissioner’s office, they are working towards a safer area following high profile incidents.

A spokesman for Dorset Police previously said: “We are all working together and driving forwards to improve the town. We are committed. We are here for you.”

Last week, the team evicted a squatter, who was also wanted for failing to appear in court, from a town centre flat.

Officers describe the man as being “prolific” in the town centre and “of significant interest” to the force.
