A POOLE high street bank is set to close this week.

Barclays Bank will shut its only branch on Poole High Street on March 8 after it was found only 39 residents regularly used it to do their banking.

It was found 93 per cent of people who use the Poole branch did so via digital means.

A spokesperson for Barclays said: “Back when we opened this branch, visiting us in-person was one of the only ways to do your banking.

“Now, as there are lots of ways to manage your money without even leaving your home, we’re seeing many customers choosing to bank using our app and online or telephone banking."

Others have shared sadness that the bank has closed, including RNLI Poole Lifeboat Station.

The station had used the bank as a donation point and took to Facebook to share how useful the bank has been to collect donations.

On Facebook a spokesperson for RNLI Poole said: "Thank you to all the staff at Barclays Bank Poole for counting and banking all our pennies that we have collected over the years.

"A lot of a little made a big lot of difference, to help us launch and keep our boats afloat, and people safe."
