A MAN who was banned from all Co-op stores in Dorset has been jailed after he entered one – and then attempted to shoplift.

Adrian Lashley, 51, was issued with a criminal behaviour order (CBO) in September 2022 after multiple convictions for shoplifting.

Conditions of the CBO included being banned from entering a Co-op or Tesco store in Dorset, not to enter any shop where he had been previously banned by shop staff, and to not remain in any shop when asked to leave by staff or security.

The terms of the CBO were amended and extended on February 12 of this year at Poole Magistrates’ Court.

This was following a further 18 counts of theft and breaching the terms and conditions of his CBO between December 2023 and February 2024.

Despite this, at around 6.15pm on Monday, February 19, Lashley entered the Co-op store in Christchurch Road, Bournemouth.

He selected items and concealed them within the dressing gown he was wearing, before he tried to leave the store without paying.

He was detained and then arrested by two officers from the Boscombe Neighbourhood Policing Team, who recognised him and knew the conditions of his CBO.

He was then charged with shoplifting and breaching his CBO.

Now, Lashley, of Bournemouth, has been jailed for 26 weeks at Poole Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, February 20.

Police constable Joanne Morgan, of Bournemouth East NPT, said: “We recognise the impact that shoplifting has on business owners in our communities. Therefore, we are committed to doing all we can to bring prolific shoplifters to justice.

“We will continue to take action against shoplifters such as Adrian Lashley and we would urge members of the public who witness acts of shoplifting in their area to please report it to us at www.dorset.police.uk, via email 101@dorset.pnn.police.uk or by calling 101.”
