SEVERAL hotels across Dorset and the New Forest have been closing over the past year.

Here is a small selection of hotels which are no more:

The Trouville Hotel

The Trouville Hotel, in Priory Road, Bournemouth, closed earlier this month after its parent company Meridian Hotel Group ceased trading.

Although Meridian Hotel went into administration on January 2, The Trouville Hotel doors has only recently shut to the public.

A sign outside said: "Regrettably any accommodation booked can not be honoured and the hotel has been closed for the foreseeable future."

Russell Court Hotel

The Russell Court Hotel in Bath Road, Bournemouth, closed in December in unknown circumstances.

Holding one of the largest venues in southern England for conferences, exhibitions and events, the hotel was popular for Indian people thanks to the Desi Dhaba restaurant within.

Mayor of Bournemouth Anne Filer said: "I think it would definitely be a loss if it doesn't remain as a hotel, especially as one that caters to a particular community."

Tyrrells Ford Country Inn

Having been on the market for around three years, the 18th century-built Tyrrells Ford Country Inn was sold in June 2023 to allow its long serving owners to retire.

The hotel was purchased in 2006 for around £1.6m by Christchurch couple Mark and Sara Watts who ran the popular venue for 17 years until closing for good after a final Sunday lunch service on June 4.

Located just off the Ringwood Road in Avon, the 14-bedroom Tyrrells Ford is midway between Christchurch and Ringwood and became a hotel in the 1970s.

The Barn

New Milton hotel and wedding venue The Hotel in Gore Road in January after Southampton-based liquidators TruSolv were appointed in August last year.

According to a statement of affairs in Companies House, it owed £129,462 to company creditors, including some in Dorset.

The Grade II listed venue was popular for wedding and celebration events and could cater for up to 150 people.

Dudsbury Hotel and Golf Club Spa

Following "careful consideration of various factors", the spa, catering and events business will also permanently close.

The golf club, off Christchurch Road, in Ferndown, will close in March this year.

A letter seen by the Echo said: “Despite our best efforts to sustain these services, we have faced significant challenges that have led us to this difficult decision."
