A BOURNEMOUTH construction company has created a film documenting the successful work of young builders in the construction industry.

Father and son duo Steve and Brad Bonner own Iconic Projects, a family-run construction company in Dorset.

Over the past five years, the team has been making a documentary showcasing the joy of working in the building industry.

Bournemouth Echo:

Titled ‘The Lost Art’, the film features 4-5 guys in their 20’s learning new skills in construction.

The documentary also pays tribute to Jack Rogers, a 20-year-old man who took his own life in March last year after struggling with mental health problems.

At the start of filming, Jack was a frequent visitor at Iconic Projects and worked closely with the team.

Director Steve Bonner said: “He was the one that got away.

Bournemouth Echo:

“I saw something in Jack and at the time felt that this young lad just needed someone to believe in him.

“When I heard about Jack passing last year it opened something I had shut away and dismissed as something that I had tried but wasn’t going to do again, the idea for the documentary.

“Talking to my son Brad and telling him about Jack, as Brad had been involved in the first time, gave us the idea and the motivation to try and see if we could finally achieve this idea and finally complete the documentary.

Bournemouth Echo:

“I hope that with this documentary we can show some good in this world where people can work together as a team and with the right guidance and encouragement you can push young people to achieve things, they never thought they would.

“I hope that this inspires people to want to do more with the future generations.

“I want to dedicate this to Jack because, without him, it wouldn’t have happened.

"The building Industry is dying and if we don’t start training the future generations there will be a huge shortfall of labour."

"Investing in the next generation is the future of the building industry. "

The film was shot, directed, and edited by Bailey Smith, 22, a filmmaker from Bournemouth.
