A BOURNEMOUTH hotel has closed its doors to the public and says bookings will not be honoured.

The Trouville Hotel, Priory Rd, Bournemouth, has closed its doors after its parent company, Meridian Hotel Group Ltd, ceased trading.

Although Meridian Hotel went into administration on January 2, The Trouville Hotel doors have only recently shut to the public.

A sign on the outside of the hotel said: "Please note the Meridian Hotel Group Ltd who were operating the Trouville Hotel have ceased trading as of 01.02.2024 and have been removed from the premises.

"Regrettably any accommodation booked can not be honoured and the hotel has been closed for the foreseeable future."

The hotel had plans to develop part of the building into holiday flats but they were refused.

In the plans for the flats, the hotel stated that the viability of the site as a hotel was in decline.

It said: “The hotel currently provides bed and breakfast accommodation with 19 bedrooms.

"Despite investment, occupancy rates have declined year-on-year and room rates have subsequently been reduced to assist booking numbers.

“Maintenance costs for the upkeep of the building have increased and without continued uptake or financial reinvestment, the condition of the building will degrade to the detriment of the area.”

Plans were put in place to change the use of the area and to build a six-storey block of residential flats and 10 holiday flats, which had been granted in 2011 and 2014, but the future of the site is now unknown.

The hotel had been the centre of an investigation in 2022 after guests in the hotel had possessions stolen.

A total of 15 people were identified as victims and were part of a coach trip that stayed for three nights.

The victims were in the hotel's restaurant when the incident occurred.

The notice went on to state that customers who might have expected to stay in the hotel should contact their boking agent or bank and inform them the hotel has entered into administration.
