A WOMAN suffered a head injury after an alleged assault by a man along a Bournemouth high street.

The woman, in her 50s, was assaulted in Charminster Road by a man, according to police officers investigating.

Officers believe the incident happened near to MY BAR between 11.45pm on Saturday, February 10 and 1am the following day.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment to a head injury, which is not believed to be serious.

A 53-year-old Bournemouth man has been arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm. He has been released on police bail as officers carry out further enquiries.

Detective staff investigator Dean Smith, of BCP CID, said: “We are investigating this incident and from our enquiries we understand there were a number of members of the public at the scene of the reported assault, some of whom went to intervene.

“I would urge these witnesses to please come forward so we can take your account of what you saw. I am particularly keen to speak to a woman who went to assist the female victim during this incident.”
