PEOPLE are being urged to “take action now” after a flood warning was issued for parts of Poole and Christchurch

Large onshore waves are expected on Friday morning, February 9, due to spring tides.

People are being urged to stay away from beaches, promenades, coastal footpaths and roads.

The warning covers Lower Hamworthy and areas of Poole from Old Town and the quay to Hunger Hill.

A high tide level of 1.5m is expected in Poole at 9am on Friday.

In Christchurch, high tide is expected at 9.15am with Mudeford, Stanpit, the Quomps and Wick areas set to be affected.

Locks and flood gates are being closed in Christchurch.

Flooding is possible for the two hours either side of this time.

The Environment Agency said: “Weather conditions are expected to produce large onshore waves.

“We are expecting higher than normal tides over the next three days and as a result we may issue further alerts/warnings.

“We will continue to monitor the forecast and re-issue this alert/warning if necessary.

“Please stay away from beaches, promenades, coastal footpaths and roads as the expected large waves and sea spray will be dangerous.

“Residents are strongly urged to take action now. Remain safe and be aware of your surroundings.”
