A RUGBY player sustained fractures to his eye socket and cheekbone after being assaulted in Sherborne.
A man is due in court in connection to the alleged assault at a rugby match at the Terrace Playing Fields.
A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: “It was reported that at around 3.30pm on Saturday, 4 March 2023, a male rugby player was assaulted during the first half of a match between Sherborne RFC and Wellington RFC at the Terrace Playing Fields.”
The victim attended hospital for treatment for injuries to his eye socket and cheekbone.
Following enquiries, police have confirmed that a 26-year-old man from Devon attended for a voluntary police interview.
He has now been issued with a postal requisition to appear at Weymouth Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 21 February 2024, for an offence of inflicting grievous bodily harm.
