A MAN who was punched to the ground was left beaten and bleeding after a random attack during the early hours. 

Police are investigating an assault at New Milton Recreation Ground in which a person was punched from behind by an unknown group of people. 

The victim was then taken to the floor and kicked and punched by the group, causing him to bleed. 

Police say the group then left the area and the victim was able to get up and call for help. 

A 22-year-old man from New Milton has been arrested on suspicion of GBH with intent in connection with this incident. He has since been released on conditional police bail, pending further enquiries.  

Hampshire Police has released a CCTV image to help identify some people following the attack between 2.25am and 2.40am on Saturday, January 27. 

One of the men in the group is described as white, of average build, around 5ft 9ins tall with dark hair and wearing dark clothing. 

Another woman is described as white, 5ft 4ins tall with dark hair down to the mid-back, of petite build and wearing glasses and braces. 

A spokesman for Hampshire Police said: “We appreciate the still image is of poor quality, so descriptions of two members of the group are detailed below. 

“We believe the people in this image can help us with our investigation and would urge them, or anyone who knows their identity, to get in touch with us. 

“Also, if you have information about this incident, saw anything suspicious in the area at the time, or have any CCTV, mobile phone, dash cam or doorbell camera footage which could aid our investigation, please contact us.
